COURSE OVERVIEW
Water distribution system operators are responsible for ensuring that the quality of drinking water is maintained throughout the distribution system. Operators are also responsible for ensuring that adequate amounts of water and pressure are available in the event of an emergency such as a fire. Familiarity with the topics and equipment will keep the distribution system functioning at optimum performance.
COURSE OUTLINE
Distribution Systems & Key Components (distribution system pressure, effects of corrosion, distribution components).
Piping Materials (types of pipe materials, pipe maintenance, disinfection procedures, troubleshooting and repairs).
Valves and Hydrants (classification and operation of valves, fittings, joints, types of hydrants).
Pumps, Motors and Engines (pump types, motors, combustible engines).
Instrumentation and Control (primary instrumentation, control systems).
Water Storage, Services and Meters (storage facilities, meters).
Cross-connection Control (types of cross-connections, backflow control methods and devices).
Distribution System O & M (flushing and cleaning, leak detection and repair).
Construction & Construction Equipment (trench and excavation sites, shoring).
Appendices (glossary, disinfection test).
