COURSE OVERVIEW
A water distribution system is the physical works that deliver water from the water source to the intended end point or user. It is designed to deliver sufficient water quantity and quality to meet the requirements of the customer. This course will define and describe the equipment and techniques used in water distribution, and explain their application in the workplace.
The water distribution system operator will be able to explain and apply the processes that are key to the safe operation of a drinking water distribution system.
COURSE OUTLINE
Water distribution systems: definition, the water distribution operator, pumps and motors, pipe systems, classification of valves, water storage and hauling.
Safety: guidelines and responsibilities, hazards in the workplace, first aid, emergency response handling.
Operation and Maintenance: regulations, sampling analysis, common problems and correction action, flushing and swabbing, O & M for pressure and flow, meters, leak detection, corrosion control and cathodic protection, cross connections and backflow prevention, O & M of mechanical equipment, disinfection, maintenance schedule, construction standards, best practices.
Troubleshooting and Repairs: troubleshooting pipes, procedures for excavations and repair of piping, disinfection procedures for broken piping, thawing procedures for frozen pipes.
