COURSE OVERVIEW
Safety in the Workplace is an online course for water plant operators. The objectives of the course are:
to list the responsibilities of operators and management for waterworks safely,
to identify and safely handle hazardous chemicals,
to recognize fire hazards and properly extinguish various types of fires,
to safely maintain waterworks equipment and facilities,
to properly operate and maintain vehicles,
to recognize electrical hazards,
to safely perform duties in a laboratory, and
to protect operators and yourself while working in and around waterworks facilities.
COURSE OUTLINE
Importance of safety.
Chemical handling (acids, bases, gases, salts, powders, WHMIS).
Fire protection (classifications, fire extinguishers).
Plant maintenance (hazards, cleaning, painting, cranes, manholes, power tools, welding).
Vehicle maintenance (accident prevention).
Electrical equipment (safety, starters and motors, lockout / tagout).
Laboratory safety (hazards, chemicals).
Operator protection (PPE, OH & S Act).
