WASTEWATER COLLECTION AND TREATMENT I
[4 DAYS INSTRUCTION + 1 EXAM DAY]
COURSE OVERVIEW
This purpose of this course is to provide operators of wastewater collection and treatment systems with the knowledge required to successfully operate and maintain community facilities, and successfully challenge provincial certification exams.

COURSE OUTLINE
Legislation
Wastewater fundamentals (bacteriology, sampling, lab safety, confined space, lift stations, force mains and sewer mains).
Preliminary and primary treatment (flow measurement, preliminary treatment, primary treatment).
Secondary treatment (secondary treatment process, activated sludge process, process control tests).
Solids handling and waste stabilization ponds (sources of solids, digestion, waste stabilization ponds / lagoons, types of ponds).
Disinfection (disinfection and chlorination, sodium hypochlorite, chlorine, ozonation, radiation disinfection (UV)).
Electrical / maintenance (electrical theory, safety, pump theory, valves, preventive maintenance).
Basic wastewater collection (collection system operations, pumping stations, hydraulics, piping, valves, distribution system maintenance).

PREREQUISITE
Class I requires OIT.
